Can you spot the difference? …

ANSWER: The corn on the left has been modified by scientists to contain a DNA sequence from a bacteria. This DNA produces a pesticide toxin. You can’t wash this pesticide off, it’s produced by every cell, and you won’t be able to spot the difference in the supermarket either.

TAKE 3 EASY STEPS to protect your family’s health and help get GMOs out of our food supply. Thank you!

1. Get the Facts. 2. Avoid GMOs. 3. Create Awareness.

“Any politician or scientist who tells you these products are safe is either very stupid or lying. The hazards of these foods are uncertain. In view of our enormous ignorance, the premature application of biotechnology is downright dangerous.”

  1. In the store, we only buy certified organic and Non-GMO Project Verified. We buy from local natural and organic farmers, grow our own. Yet we live in the middle of farm country, gmo crops abound. Thank goodness for the forest, but wondering how long they can last with the constant roundup / glyphosate apps from planes. Time for the transition back to natural across the world.

  2. GMO labels Should be provided cause the GMO crops are never the less when compared with the original crops inorder to spot the difference GMO labels shoul be provided(E…..H…..)

  3. All living things are composed of variant DNA molecules. These molecules have changed over the years and will continue to change. If the DNA of corn is changed so that it contains the DNA of a bacteria (NOT THE BACTERIA ITSELF) how is that different from replacing a human heart valve with the heart valve from a pig? I do not believe that DNA in itself will hurt anyone since we all have it and the food we eat does NOT change our DNA. Neither does a heart valve from a pig.

    • Organ transplants are not the same as genetic engineering. One of the big issues I have with genetic engineering is the lack of ethical framework. Do we really want goats engineered to produce spider web protein in their milk? Do we really want cows with human genes so their milk is more like human milk? Should these questions be left to companies who stand to profit?

What kind of a world do we want? This is the thin end of the wedge… pretty soon we could have a world full of uncontrolled mutants whose effect on the environment is unknown and can’t be predicted. We have kids making new organisms in their garages with gene parts ordered off the internet.

This is an experiment going on with no control, and no ethical framework. A disaster is a probability. If modified soil bacteria were to get out of the lab for example, it could potentially kill all plant life. This is what nearly happened once. I think we need to be very careful about playing God, and I think that power should certainly not be in the hands on companies who are only interested in profit.

    • In 2008 the UN’s Ad Hoc Intergovernmental Task Force on Foods Derived from Biotechnology concluded that genetically engineered foods ARE different from conventionally bred foods and that all genetically engineered foods should be required to go through a safety assessment prior to approval. While this does not have the force of law at least 64 countries have required labeling of GMOs in response. A number have restricted GMOs by region, banned GMOs or certain GE foods.
Conventional breeding of plants called Hybridization is not the same as genetic modification. Adopted in 2003 “Modern Biotechnology” which is the term used by UN Ad Hoc committee on Foods Derived from Biotechnology means the application of: i) In vitro nucleic acid techniques, including recombinant deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) and direct injection of nucleic acid into cells or organelles, or
ii) Fusion of cells beyond the taxonomic family, that OVERCOME natural physiological reproductive or recombinant barriers and that are not techniques used in traditional breeding and selection. Conventional breeding methods involve transfer of pollen or grafting of stems or tissue culture. Hybridization does not have or achieve the same goals as GE. The goal of hybridization is to improve the qualities of a plant as they already naturally occur, working WITHIN pre-existing natural physiological reproductive or recombinant barriers over a minimum of several cycles of the plant’s reproduction. Similarly “replacing a human heart valve with the heart valve from a pig” works WITHIN the pre-existing natural physiological reproductive or recombinant barriers.
Most of GE breeding have the sole goal of increasing sales of the companies other chemical products (herbicides and pesticides).
GE leaps over the natural life cycle and even the ONE example typically presented as altruistically motivated (Golden Rice) was accomplished via the easiest and quickest rice variety and method rather than the harder and best rice variety and method that would actually work to get Vitamin A to more people, which reveals the real goal to be making money and greed as motivation and not any truly altruistic motivation.

    • Like the statement says, if you think GMO is safe and just part of natural genetic modifications that occur as we reproduce and age, you are either very stupid or lying. It’s not DNA, it’s genetically modified in a laboratory DNA. I am a scientist, degree in Pharmacology and Toxicology, worked on molecular and cellular toxicity focusing on liver, and then on genetic diseases such as CF and the on neurobiology in Huntington’s and regeneration of axons. I’m an intelligent scientist and not a back, you will never convince me for a moment that GMO’s are safe. If you don’t think for a minute that something that is laboratory genetically modified, will not cause genetic mutations by eating it, you are drinking the koolaide. I’m sick of people who have no clue about research, about DNA, and about synthetic chemicals trying to pass things off as safe. I worked in drug safety and in the development of small molecule correcters, and because of that I will NEVER take a pharmaceutical medication or anything that is produced in a laboratory, if you saw the evidence that I saw, my research was true and unbias, and it always always came out that these things are toxic and cause genetic mutations hence the rise in cancer! Now stop trying to compare valve replacements and skin grafts and mechanical manipulation a with genetically mutated crops. Side by side studies of organic vs commercial shows your body ain’t stupid, it processed them differently and you can’t trick your body. The organic, more nutrients, less harsh in the path it takes to metabolism. You can’t fool nature, and by eating gmos and chemically sprayed crops you are killing your body and creating the opportunity for genetic mutations due to the stressed and unnatural metabolism these GMO foods cause. Like I said any scientist who tries to tell you otherwise is being paid by Monsanto or just stupid, which many PhD’s are, or just plain lying. PhD really stands for Pulls his dick, because all the PhD’s I worked for were so narrow minded and had no clue about genetics, rare disorders or toxicity. I would never trust a scientific paper that didn’t have more scientist like me doing the research. Herbal medicine is the way to go, it had worked for 1000 of years!

      • Well said! Great to get your input, with you having a science background. It’s very important people like you stand up and be counted because otherwise, they just claim everyone is being unscientific.

  4. I bought a box of “ALL NATURAL ORGANIC PANCAKE MIX”, and on the box it reads “CONSUMER ALERT, manufactered in a facility that processes dairy products, sesame, soy and wheat.” Should I be concerned? It came from MAPLE GROVE FARMS OF VERMONT.

    • I wouldn’t be Richard. Organic is a good choice, but the organic standard is process based. If you want the best of the best GMO avoidance, organic and non-GMO verified is the way to go. It’s impossible to avoid every trace anyway. Doing the best while sending a powerful consumer message is the way to go because the consumer rules.
